The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
