The Former President's Actions Pose a Threat to Civilization.

The national and international initiatives – from the attempted coup previously to latest actions and statements – weaken not only national and global law. But that’s not all.

They jeopardize the core idea of civilization itself.

The guiding principle of any advanced culture is to prevent the stronger from attacking and exploiting the less powerful. Without this, we could find ourselves permanently immersed in a brutish war where might makes right could survive.

This principle is embedded of the nation's founding texts. This is also the heart of the modern framework of international relations championed by the America, built on multilateralism, democracy, fundamental freedoms, and the legal authority.

However, it is a delicate construct, easily violated by those who seek to abuse their authority. Preserving it requires that the those in charge have enough integrity to abstain from seeking short-term wins, and that the public demand responsibility when they fail.

Unchecked strength does not equal right. It leads to turmoil, upheaval, and hostilities.

Whenever individuals, companies, or nations that are richer and more powerful target and use those that are not, the structure of civilization frays. Should such behavior are allowed to continue, the fabric unravels. Without intervention, the world can plunge into disorder and conflict. It has happened before.

Today, we live in a international landscape with deepening divides. Influence and wealth are more concentrated than ever before. This invites the powerful to exploit the less fortunate because they perceive themselves as omnipotent.

The fortunes of a handful of tycoons is almost beyond comprehension. The influence of big tech, big oil, and large defense contractors spans much of the globe. Artificial intelligence is could centralize wealth and power further. The military might of the major powers is unmatched in the annals of time.

Empowered by political allies and a pliant supreme court, the highest office has been turned into the supreme and answerable-to-none agent of the state in history.

Combine these factors and you perceive the threat.

A direct line links earlier transgressions to ongoing provocations. Each were based on the arrogance of invincibility.

There is a similar pattern in other global contexts: in territorial invasions, in strategic threats, and in the global depredation by powerful corporate entities.

However, raw power does not create right. It makes for fragility, revolution, and war.

Historical evidence demonstrates that rules and conventions to check the powerful also shield them. Without such constraints, their endless appetite for increased control and resources in time lead to their downfall – and with them their enterprises, countries, or domains. And risk international catastrophe.

Such lawlessness will cast a long shadow over the nation and the world – and indeed civilized conduct – for a long time.
