Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
