A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season present a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to not yelling at loved ones. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced over the break, and should you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most shocking revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara.
